Tessina Schenk (MSc., Dual Ba.) is urban designer, researcher for the platform Airport and Cities, and Project Manager to the Future Cities Laboratory Programme Leader. She holds a high-merit Master of Science degree from the Cities Programme at the London School of Economics (LSE), where she has specialised in urban regeneration strategies, comprehensive master planning, sustainable planning and urban governance, after successfully completing her interdisciplinary undergraduate studies in Sociology, Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Zurich and Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Before joining the chair of Professor Kees Christiaanse she has been a teaching assistant and managing editor for the S.L.U.M. Lab Magazine entitled “Asian Mode” (Ed.2012) under the Urban-Think Tank Chair of Prof. Brillembourg and Prof. Klumpner.

In addition to gaining work experience in Switzerland, the US and Romania in the fields of urban regeneration, mixed-use schemes and architecture, Schenk has worked for a Swiss national broadcaster as an Art Director and has published her first article in 2006 on Italian ghost towns and the problematic of aging population and young people’s mobility in collaboration with Prof. Karin Sander and the Goethe Institute in Rom.

Ever since her research interests are the global-local interface in developed cities and developing cities, the influence of new technologies in the field of urban design and the difficult role of comprehensive master planning in post-socialist cities such as Moscow and Bucharest.

Tessina Schenk has been awarded the IKEA-Scholarship and the Stiftung für Architektur Scholarship for extraordinary performance in the disciplines of architecture and urban planning.
